Law Offices of Maury Mills

Hello.  I am a sole practitioner with over a quarter of a century of experience primarily in the following areas:

Employment & Labor Law: Representing employees throughout Southern California in both Federal and State Court from San Luis Obispo to San Diego in wrongful termination, retaliation, discrimination and Labor Code violation matters.

I was plaintiff’s attorney in the landmark 1998 California Supreme Court case of City of Moorpark v. Superior Court (1998) 18 Cal. 4th 1143.

Family Law:   Representing both women and men in all areas of family law in Ventura, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles counties including:

Dissolution, property division, child custody/visitation, child & spousal support, grandparents rights, paternity and restraining orders as well as all other family law issues.

Guardianship and Conservator ship:  Representing both those seeking as well as opposing guardian-ships and both proposed Conservators and Conservatees in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties.

Juvenile:  Representing a parent or parents who have had their child or children removed from their custody and control for one reason or another.  This is an especially difficult area for the parents as the time frame from the detention hearing where the court determines if the child should be made wards of the court to a hearing to determine if parental rights should be terminated is only 18 months.  Theoretically during that time, the parents are offered "services" by the court to re-unify the parents with their children. But in reality the social workers for Child Protective Services have a tremendous amount of power as it is their reports which the court normally relies on.  This is a time where a fine line must be walked to co-operate with the social workers while at the same time a parent must not allow himself or herself to be manipulated by the system in the pursuit of "the best interest of the child" which is the legitimate goal of the juvenile court.

I moved from my suite in a business building with high overhead to a home office a couple of years ago.  This has allowed me to greatly reduce the hourly fee I charge while still giving my clients the same professional care and expertise that has been a hallmark of my practice for almost thirty years now.  Aside from reduced rates, I am also able to work out interest free payment plans for those clients in need of representation but do not have the ability to pay a large retainer.
